Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand is now open for trekking: How British mountaineers ‘discovered’ this UNESCO Himalayan paradise

The Valley of Flowers National Park in Uttarakhand, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is now open for trekking. Spread across 87 sq km, it is home to more than 600 flower species, rare wildlife, waterfalls and Himalayan views. British mountaineers led by Frank S Smythe ‘discovered the valley in 1931. Nearby attractions include Ghangaria, Hemkunt Sahib, Mana, Joshimath, Govindghat and Nanda Devi National Park.
