The death toll from a powerful earthquake in southwestern Japan has risen to thirty-four. Six people sustained serious injuries from the earthquake which struck late Tuesday. Buildings collapsed and roads ruptured as the earthquake caused widespread damage. Nearly half of the fatalities occurred at two major incident sites. These sites included a paper mill and a shopping mall.
