R9.1 million tax blow averted as SARS raids Gauteng warehouse in illicit alcohol crackdown

More than R8 million in illicit cigarettes has been seized recently, highlighting a trade estimated to cost South Africa up to R100 billion annually.

SARS and SAPS have seized 26 000 litres of imported ethanol at a Kempton Park warehouse, with the consignment estimated to have attracted about R9.1 million in duties and taxes.
