A 16th-century Portuguese ship, the Bom Jesus, was found buried beneath Namibian desert sands. This remarkably preserved wreck yielded a valuable cargo of gold, copper, and ivory. Thousands of coins and copper ingots were recovered from the ancient vessel. Elephant tusks from West Africa highlighted extensive trade networks of the era. The fate of the ship's crew remains an unsolved historical mystery.
