The major US carrier said it put a temporary ground stop on its planes ‘while our teams worked to resolve the issue’

American Airlines flights not in the air were being held for a nationwide ground stop Tuesday evening because of an IT outage, according to an FAA advisory.

An American Airlines IT outage disrupted its app and website, prompting the FAA to issue a ground stop for all non-airborne flights Tuesday.

Though the ground stop was brief, the ripple effect of halting all planes from such a large carrier will take some time to fully dissipate.
