Chilling CCTV footage shows a wildfire approaching and almost engulfing a home in just eight minutes. The blaze can first be seen from the distant mountainside, before it begins consuming trees and making its way towards the property in Navas del Rey, 52km away from Madrid. The homeowner said the blaze did not enter the house, though the footage shows the nearby grass and trees completely burned. Deadly wildfires are currently raging through Europe, with more than 90,000 people around Madrid and Ávila being ordered to flee their homes as blazes raged. Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez said that there would be “difficult hours” ahead. “The entire Iberian peninsula is suffering the effects of the climate emergency in a very specific way,” he added.

Spain and France have been at the epicentre of Europe’s wildfire season, which started early this year and accelerated in recent weeks.
