India records highest adoptions in over a decade at 5,022 in FY26; special needs adoptions rise 25%

India achieved its highest adoption numbers in over a decade during FY26. A total of 5,022 children found permanent families, marking a significant increase. Domestic adoptions accounted for the majority, while inter-country placements also saw growth. More girls were adopted than boys, continuing a long-standing trend.
