Scientists from India and Britain have identified a protein called Ark1 that acts as a control switch in the malaria parasite's cell division process. The discovery, made by teams from Delhi's National Institute of Immunology and the University of Nottingham, could open the door to an entirely new class of anti-malarial drugs at a time when resistance to existing treatments is growing.
