France and Spain grapple with massive forest fires as an impending heatwave in southwest France intensifies the crisis, prompting emergency meetings by Macron and Sanchez.

Several firefighters have been killed as France, Spain and Italy all battle wildfires that have forced tens of thousands to evacuate a vacation hotspot.

About 44,000 people were evacuated from France's Cap Ferret peninsula, while around 40,000 people in Spain's Madrid region were told to leave or stay indoors as wildfires spread.
