Jenna, 15, died on 8 November 2024 after being struck by a boat propeller during a whale shark excursion organised by St Joseph’s Institution International Ltd and a UK-registered charity. Her parents, Dr Jennifer Liauw and Alan Chan, have filed a lawsuit alleging that the Singapore-based school failed to ensure safety, vet the excursion properly, and has refused accountability. They claim the school showed a lack of transparency and empathy, including sending an email about trip activities with Jenna's photos after her death was known. St Joseph’s Institution International Ltd denies the allegations, saying that the boat captain was responsible for the incident and that they are defending the claim in the Singapore High Court.
