The federal and South Australian governments have thrown an extra $4.6 billion at the construction of an AUKUS shipyard.

The defence minister will pledge more money for South Australia’s Osborne shipyard, central to the AUKUS nuclear-powered submarine program.

Aukus, designed to check China’s military advance in the Indo-Pacific, is expected to cost Canberra up to US$250 billion over 30 years.
