A UK-born Pakistani man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for plotting a mass casualty terrorist attack on a British military base, after investigators found he had prepared for an act of terrorism and shared extremist material with an associate who later carried out a deadly attack on a synagogue.

Jihad al-Shamie, 35, was captured on CCTV at a mosque in Manchester discussing the plot with fellow 'committed jihadist' Mohammad Bashir, 31, a delivery driver, on August 9, 2025.
