Parents found dead in campervan after ‘tragedy’ at cider festival

An inquest at Winchester Coroner’s Court determined their cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning, resulting from a leaky gas heater used inside their enclosed vehicle. Area coroner Rosamund Rhodes-Kemp concluded the deaths were a result of misadventure, noting the parabolic heater was not designed for indoor use and was not securely attached to its gas cylinder. The couple, who were stall traders selling copper wire trees, had used the heater due to the October chill, with Ms Coll's mother stating they made a "fatal mistake" as the van was not designed for overnight stays with heating. The coroner expressed deep sorrow for the "absolute tragedy" and announced plans to contact the heater's manufacturers to ensure adequate warnings are provided to prevent future deaths.
