The 21-year-old swimmer is expected to compete in several longer-distance freestyle events at the Games, which commence on Thursday. McCann, a Loughborough University student, previously represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Tobago in 2023, where he placed fifth in the 400m freestyle. He hopes his performance at the Commonwealth Games will help him secure a place in the Great Britain team for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. McCann trains nine times a week in the pool and three times in the gym, dedicating over 20 hours weekly to his sport since the age of 11.
