At least 60 guests at the unnamed hotel required treatment after swimming in the pool, with some taken to Costa del Sol Hospital and others treated on site. An initial investigation suggests a ruptured pressure pump, responsible for injecting chlorine and acid, caused the pool's chlorine and pH systems to malfunction, releasing other gases. The hotel's pool was subsequently closed for maintenance, and a van from a Malaga-based lab was seen entering the premises. The incident follows a separate event in Italy on the same day, where nine people were poisoned and 50 evacuated due to a chlorine leak at a swimming pool.
