The exercise, which lasted about 30 minutes, took place about 40 nautical miles south of Plymouth. The Royal Navy's offshore patrol vessel HMS Tyne and a French military aircraft shadowed the Russian frigate during the operation. The Russian warship reportedly informed HMS Tyne of its intentions before commencing the live-fire exercise.
