Scientists found ancient magma pathways beneath the Ontong Java Plateau. These preserved underground structures show massive volcanic activity over 100 million years ago. Seismic waves revealed magma-filled fractures, known as dike swarms, deep below the ocean. This volcanic activity reshaped Earth's lithosphere and altered surrounding mantle rocks. The findings offer new insights into how large volcanic provinces formed.
