Political reactions intensify over Wangchuk

Sonam Wangchuk’s hospitalisation has triggered sharp political reactions, with leaders across Opposition parties accusing the Centre of suppressing a peaceful protest. RJD’s Manoj Jha, CPI(M)’s Brinda Karat and NCP (SP)’s Anish Gawande questioned the manner in which Wangchuk was removed from Jantar Mantar. Congress leaders Sachin Pilot and Nana Patole alleged that the government was trying to silence dissent instead of addressing the protesters’ demands, while Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal expressed concern over the lack of dialogue. TMC MP Saugata Roy, meanwhile, said he was relieved that Wangchuk’s life had been saved and praised his resolve.
