Karnataka HC quashes defamation case against Union minister Shobha Karandlaje

The Karnataka High Court has quashed the criminal defamation case filed against Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje by former Congress MLA Sowmya Reddy. The court observed that the alleged remarks did not prima facie meet the requirements of criminal defamation under Sections 499 and 500 of the IPC and held that political statements made during public debate do not automatically amount to defamation.
