Cyclist bitten by one of the world’s most venomous snakes

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon on the Northern Rivers Rail Trail near Burringbar, when she reportedly rode over the snake. Paramedics transported her to Tweed Valley Hospital in a stable condition, and she was discharged the following morning. The eastern brown snake, one of the world's most venomous, was later euthanised by a snake handler due to the severe injuries it sustained from being caught in the bike. A snake handler advised that eastern browns are defensive rather than aggressive and recommended that cyclists and walkers carry compression bandages and know snakebite first aid.
