SC to hear producer's plea on 'Mahaprabhu Jagannath' release

The Supreme Court will on Friday hear a plea by Ele Animations Pvt Ltd challenging the Orissa High Court's interim order staying the release of its animated film Mahaprabhu Jagannath. The high court had restrained the film's release over objections to its portrayal of Lord Jagannath, saying the issues warranted detailed judicial scrutiny. The PIL seeks cancellation of the film's CBFC certification, alleging its fictional depiction of the deity violates Hindu scriptures and established temple traditions.
