Sam Neill has died at the age of 78 after revealing he was 'cancer--free' just months ago following his long battle with the disease.

The much-loved actor, best known for his role as palaeontologist Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park franchise, has died.

“The loss was sudden and unexpected,” Neill’s family said in a statement Monday.

"Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterized his whole life," the statement shared on Instagram read.
