Sir Keir Starmer exited his final PMQs as prime minister and Labour leader to a standing ovation. Last month, Sir Keir resigned after almost two years in power, following recent record local election losses and mounting pressure from his own MPs. His successor, Andy Burnham, is expected to become prime minister on Monday (20 July). Addressing the Commons for the final time as leader, the outgoing prime minister said: “To all those in the gallery, whose lives have been changed or improved by this Labour government, and all across the country who struggle to be seen or heard, you are the reason I came into politics.” "To my wife and children, I love you. Goodbye,” he said, as MPs stood up and gave him a round of applause, before he went over to shake the speaker’s hand.

Keir Starmer was cheered into the chamber for the weekly set-piece, and the Speaker praised 'his public service, his international leadership... his steadfast support for Ukraine'.
