Sir Keir Starmer has left the House of Commons for the final time as prime minister after just over two years in office. The outgoing PM took office on 5 July, 2024, ending 14 years of Conservative rule. After announcing his resignation last month, Sir Keir said he will give his “wholehearted support” to successor Andy Burnham. The Makerfield MP is expected to take office on Monday, having secured the backing of more than 300 Labour MPs.
