RIYADH: Saudi Minister of Defense Prince Khalid bin Salman expressed his condolences on Wednesday to Qatar’s prime minister after the passing of the country’s former emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani. In a phone call with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Prince Khalid prayed that God have mercy on the deceased and grant him a place in paradise. Sheikh Hamad led Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and was 74 when he passed away. He was seen as one of the architects of modern Qatar and led the country during a period of rapid economic growth. His funeral was held on Sunday.
