Four points in the port city hosting Iran's only nuclear power plant were hit by US projectiles on Tuesday, as Iran's parliament formally submitted a bill asserting Tehran's permanent control over the Strait of Hormuz.

The sustained escalation in fighting comes nearly a month after the two sides inked a draft peace deal that prolonged a ceasefire and began 60 days of negotiations.

Iran said it closed the Strait of Hormuz after a vessel travelled on an unapproved route and was struck.
