This marks Downey Jr.'s first appearance in the MCU since his character Tony Stark's death in Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Marvel's former visual department director, Andy Park, shared the first look at Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom mask in concept art for the film. Avengers: Doomsday will unite characters from across Marvel's many universes, including Thor, the X-Men, Ant-Man, and Yelena Belova. The film, which is the first half of a two-part Avengers finale, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 18 December.
