Kolkata Airport Authority has suspended entry to the 136-year-old Gouripur Jama Masjid, also known as the Bankra Mosque, inside Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, and halted prayers at the site citing "operational and security concerns." Airport officials said the mosque's proximity to the secondary runway has raised safety issues, while BJP MLA Sourav Sikdar stated that "relocating the mosque would allow the airport to expand from two operational runways to four."

The Bankra mosque, believed to be over 130 years old, is situated nearly 165 metres from the secondary runway of the Kolkata airport. | India News
