Assam is a key transit route for illegal drugs originating from Myanmar, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said. Drug peddlers often use women and children to transport smaller quantities. There is now greater synergy and intelligence sharing among northeastern states and West Bengal. The Union Home Ministry is supporting the destruction of seized narcotics.
