The text exchange from at least 12.14pm between a producer on Channel 5's Matt Allwright show showed the pair were regularly talking and joking about the former MP and MEP’s remote appearance on the programme and whether she received a Zoom meeting link. She stopped responding to text messages shortly after 12.19pm, with the producer messaging “Hi Ann is everything okay?” and called her multiple times but went without answer; Allwright said on his show at 1.27pm that Ms Widdecombe was supposed to appear as a guest but had not turned up.A 28-year-old British national has been arrested in South Yorkshire on suspicion of her murder and is currently in police custody; police have stated there is no information to suggest the murder was related to terrorism or had a political motive. An earlier arrest of a 26-year-old man was made, but he has since been released and is no longer part of the investigation. Police are today understood to be investigating the circumstances surrounding Ann Widdecombe's death.

Widdecombe appeared on Talk radio on Wednesday
