Six-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy will also participate in the opening ceremony, expressing his honour and excitement for the home Games. King Charles will formally open the Games by reading the message he placed into the King’s Baton, which has visited all 74 Commonwealth nations and territories over 500 days since its launch. The Games will run from July 23 to August 2, featuring over 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories competing across 10 sports and six Para sports. The event also highlights the Commonwealth Clean Ocean Plastics Campaign, which aims to prevent one million pieces of plastic from entering Commonwealth waters through community clean-ups.
