The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on Thursday launched a fresh round of strikes against Iran after President Donald Trump signalled the possibility of further military action against the Islamic Republic.

The US Central Command confirmed strikes had been launched against Iran in retaliation for attacks on three tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

US strikes in Iran come a day after Qatari, Saudi tankers hit in attacks in Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command said the strikes were carried out “to impose heavy costs” for attacks on commercial shipping.
