The Democratic Socialists of America topped 120,000 members as the U.S. celebrated its 250th Independence Day, the group said.

While establishment Democrats argue socialists are confined to the coasts, DSA chapters have helped elevate more than 300 candidates nationwide.

The DSA has backed anti-establishment views and candidates, claiming that neither political party represents "working people."
