Assam grants citizenship to 6 persons under CAA, identifies 1.7 lakh foreigners, border fencing issues with Bangladesh

Around seventy people applied for Indian citizenship under the CAA, with six granted it. Assam has identified over 1.7 lakh foreigners, expelling more than 31,000 to date. Cases for nearly 74,000 identified foreigners are ongoing in tribunals. Border fencing with Bangladesh is incomplete due to riverine areas and objections. Fencing could not be erected along 4.35 kilometers of the India-Bangladesh border.
