The Belgian Football Federation (RBFA) said on Monday it had challenged the decision to allow American striker Folarin Balogun to play in the World Cup last-16 match between Belgium and the United States.

The US striker was shown red in the team’s last-32 match, but the card and its suspension were thought to not be eligible for appeal.

Balogun was shown a controversial red during the U.S.’s 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina to start the knockout stage and was initially not allowed to play in the round of 16.
