Under this rule, most fouls will result in a single free throw that carries the cumulative point value of the original allocation, with conventional procedures remaining only in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter and overtime. The Summer League frequently serves as a testing ground for potential NBA rule modifications, having previously introduced innovations like the coaches' challenge and the 14-second shot clock reset. This year's Summer League will also feature "connected basketballs" with embedded sensors to collect data for future officiating applications, such as last-touch out-of-bounds calls. Summer League play begins Friday with the California Classic, followed by events in Salt Lake City and the main NBA Summer League in Las Vegas from July 9-19, featuring top draft picks.
