Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, was among the competitors at the royal horse event, which subsequently drew criticism for the presence of the controversial flag. Organisers of the Challenge event issued a public apology on Facebook, stating they were "truly sorry" and acknowledged the "hurt and offence" the symbol represents, committing to prevent such an incident from recurring. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was also reported to have attended the trials on Sunday, with an onlooker noting he "sneaked in and out" and seemed to avoid being seen publicly. This rare public appearance by Andrew follows a security scare in May and his arrest in February on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, linked to allegations of passing sensitive information to Jeffrey Epstein.
