PHOENIX (AP) — For decades, all that separated the U.S. from Mexico was barbed wire.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said recently that a preliminary part of the wall will be finished by “this time next year.”

The 30-foot-tall steel fencing will include an array of sophisticated technology like sensors, cameras and towers allowing Border Patrol to surveil the territory.

CBP is building 6 miles a week while deploying AI towers and sensors, reviving a once-failed “virtual wall” model as oversight concerns grow.
