Restaurant in Punjab ordered to pay Rs 5,000 after adding Rs 129 service charge without consent and refusing to remove it

A Chandigarh consumer commission has ordered a Bathinda rooftop restaurant to refund Rs 129 in service charge and pay Rs 5,000 as compensation after it was found to have automatically added the charge to a customer's bill without prior disclosure or consent, in violation of Central Consumer Protection Authority guidelines issued in 2022.
