Some of the ransom notes sent to news outlets in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, were not legitimate, but other notes might be and are still under investigation, the FBI Phoenix office said Wednesday.

a second ransom note allegedly sent to some media outlets just days after Nancy Guthrie went missing reportedly said the 84-year-old died and is "buried with nature."

Former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer has weighed in on the ransom notes that were sent to the media after Nancy Guthrie disappeared.

An FBI official said the bureau believes the ransom notes sent to Nancy Guthrie's family are not genuine.
