Australian explosives and chemicals company Orica (ASX:ORI) has taken a final investment decision (FID) on its 50-MW Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub in New South Wales, allowing the project to move ahead with up to AUD 432 million (USD 97.5m/EUR 260.9m) in previously awarded support from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

The renewables-based hydrogen project in NSW is backed by more than $500 million of government funding for upfront capex and to offset higher production costs.

Just two projects were funded under Hydrogen Headstart and one has just reached FID, with work to start imminently.
