A suspect was seen fleeing across the border into France, prompting a joint search by French and Monaco authorities, who are currently investigating the motive behind the attack. Mr Yermolaiev, a wealthy real estate developer, had previously renounced his Ukrainian citizenship and was sanctioned by President Zelensky in 2023 over alleged business dealings in Russian-occupied Crimea.
