Venezuelan authorities now put the death toll from the twin 24 June quakes at more than 1,700, with 5,034 injured and up to 68,000 missing as UN-backed rescue efforts continue in La Guaira.

Venezuela’s twin earthquakes leave 1,430 dead and nearly 69,000 missing as rescuers race against time amid widespread destruction and limited resources.

The president of Venezuela’s National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, reported that 1,430 people died in the two 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes.
