The men's Twenty20 competition will feature six teams, with reigning world champions India, Great Britain, and South Africa already confirmed, alongside hosts United States, provided they maintain a top 15 ICC ranking. Qualification for the men's tournament includes one team from each of the five continents based on ICC rankings by December 31, 2026, with a Caribbean regional qualifier and a subsequent global qualifier determining the final spot. The women's T20 competition will also comprise six teams, with Australia, Great Britain, South Africa, and India having already secured their places based on their performance in the ongoing World Cup. The United States women's team has been excluded from the LA Olympics as they are not currently within the ICC's top 15, with the remaining spots to be filled by the highest-ranked non-qualified team and a winner from a global qualifier following a Caribbean regional qualifier.
