KABUL/ISLAMABAD -- Afghan government officials said on Monday that Pakistani airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan killed at least 36 people and injured 163 others.

Strikes come a day after fighters armed with guns and explosives killed three soldiers in Karachi.

Pakistan’s information minister said the operation was launched in response to multiple militant attacks across the country.

The strikes come a day after an attack in the southern city of Karachi killed three paramilitary troops. There was no immediate response from Afghanistan's ruling Taliban.
