It comes after the Met Office confirmed that temperatures rose to 36.7C in Merryfield, Somerset, on Thursday, provisionally breaking records as the UK’s hottest June day. On Wednesday, the London Ambulance service responded to its highest ever number of life-threatening emergencies.
