A twin earthquake that was Venezuela's largest in over a century has killed at least 164 people and destroyed multiple buildings near the capital, where residents searched Thursday for missing relatives.

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake and a 7.5-magnitude were less than a minute apart, said the U.S. Geological Survey. The second earthquake was the largest to hit the country since 1900.

Twin earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 have killed 32 people and injured over 700 in Venezuela, collapsing buildings and causing widespread panic.
