Emergency services were called to the incident at 8.50am, with the child subsequently transported to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for urgent treatment. British Transport Police confirmed that two people were in the car, with one pronounced dead at the scene and the other taken to hospital. No injuries were reported among the passengers or staff on the 7.51am Colne to Preston service involved in the collision. National Rail announced that train services between Preston and Blackburn have been cancelled until 2pm, with replacement bus services put in place.
