Why scientists may be missing extraterrestrial signals: New study offers an explanation

New SETI Institute research reveals stellar "space weather" can distort alien radio signals before they even leave their home systems. Plasma turbulence and stellar activity near planets can broaden narrow signals, making them harder to detect. This challenges traditional SETI searches that look for sharp frequency spikes, especially around M-dwarf stars, which are common in our galaxy. Future searches may need to adapt to these broadened signals.
