Police drone uses magnet to disarm knife-wielding suspect in ‘US first’

A felony suspect armed with a knife was disarmed using a drone flown by police in what officials said was a first for the US. Footage shared by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office shows a drone officer flying over a high-power magnet, which was then secured to the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The drone was then deployed inside the residence, where it flew above the unresponsive suspect, who was holding a knife in his hand. Footage shows the knife being pulled out of the suspect’s hand, which then allowed deputies to move in. Police said the “innovative solution,” which was thought of by a deputy after the suspect failed to respond to negotiators, was a nationwide first for the US.
